Vienna lager from brew.is.

Darker lager, very malty. Low bitterness and 5% abv.

Fermentation takes 17 days, and then it needs to lager for a few weeks so hopefully it will be ready early november.

I wanted to try to make a “real” post so i decided to show how the beer is made.

How do i brew it?

I decided to be nice to my family and brew this one in the garage. They don’t like the smell of brewing as much as I do.

This was about 2.3kg of grain that was mashed in water at 64 degrees for an hour. Then the grain was removed, leaving 14 liters of sweet wort.

Then it is time to boil the wort. This is done to kill bacteria, boil off some water and to extract flavor from the hops.

This recipe uses 25 grams of hops

After boiling for an hour, the wort is cooled with a wort chiller. It is a metal spiral that circulates cold water, cooling whatever it is put into. I just got this one and super happy to try it out.

When the wort is cold enough it is siphoned into the fermenting vessel, mine is a 10 liter Ikea plastic container that just barely fits into my fermentation fridge.

I used yeast from my last lager, and after that it will ferment for 2 weeks.

Every surface in the garage is now sticky, and time for the worst part: cleaning everything.

I spilled wort everywhere trying to get a sample to measure gravity

This took about 6 hours, excluding the time it takes to clean everything. So don’t underestimate how much work I put into this.

The cleaning can wait because I’m tired

Will add more when the fermentation is further along.
